Meta-Analysis of the Relationship Between Old Adults’ Life Satisfaction and Adjustment-Related Variables

Abstract
The study aimed to systematically synthesize the life satisfaction and adjustment-related variables ofthe elderly by meta-analysis. Also, the study aimed to verify whether there were differences on effectsizes depending on the moderator variables (type of thesis, date of publication, gender, occupation,volunteering experience, and participation method). For the analysis, 102 studies on the relationbetween life satisfaction and adjustment were analyzed. The results showed that the effect size of thelife satisfaction of the elderly and positive adjustment was high, but the life satisfaction of theelderly and negative adjustment was moderate. According to the total effect size of life satisfactionand individual adjustment variables, quality of family relationship was the highest among the positiveadjustment variables, and stress was the highest among the negative adjustment variables. The effectsof the variables related to the life satisfaction and adjustment-related variables of the elderly weredifferent according to the type of publication, publication year, gender, and participation of volunteerservice.
