The Composition of Sibling, Peer Relationships, Attachment and Life Satisfaction

Abstract
This study examined the relationship between characterstics of sibling composition and peer relationships in the context of attachment to parents and life satisfaction in elemenatary school children and middle school adolescents. Two way ANOVA revealed sister-sister pairs displayed more warmth than brother-brother, sister-brother and brother-sister pairs in their relationships but there were no differences in conflict dimensions. Also sister-sister pairs displayed more attachments to parents than brother-brother, sister-brother and brother-sister pairs and more life satisfaction than brother-brother and sister-brother pairs. Likewise sister-sister pairs displayed high warmth and low conflict but brother-brother pairs displayed low warmth and high conflict in their peer relationships. Interestingly carryover model was supported in the sibling and peer relationships. Additionally, the group with positive relationships in sibling and peers displayd higher attachments to parents and higher life satisfactions than the group with negative ones.
