A Study on the Relationship between Family Environmental Characteristics and Health related to the Quality of life of Toddlers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family environmental characteristics on thehealth status of toddler aged children. The data was harvested from a survey which was conducted uponparents of five year old children, utilizing the Children Health Questionnaire - PF50. The effects of familysocio-economic, structure, general relational factors, behavioral issues, and the mental health of childrenwere analyzed. The results are as follows : The family relationship factors have significant effects on theboth general and behavioral health status of children. Moreover, the variable of living together with one'sgrandparents influenced behavioral health status, and family structural factors impacted on the mentalhealth status of children. From these results, it was possible to discern a number of theoretical andpractical implications for social work practice which focuses on improving the health related quality of lifeof a toddler's family. These issues were also discussed.
