The Effects of Playfulness in Elementary School Children upon Self - Regulation

Abstract
This study was to also aimed at uncovering any out sex differences between playfulness and self-regulation.The subjects were 562 elementary school boys and girls from the fourth to sixth grades in GwangjuProvince. Data were analyzed by regression analysis using the SPSS statistical program. The results of thisstudy were as follows. Firstly boys' and girls' playfulness influenced their cognitive and motivationalself-regulation with the exception of pursuing interests. secondly the boys' sense of humor was higher thanthat of the girls' and the boys' independent playfulness was lower than that of the girls. Thirdly therewere sex differences in self-regulation. The girls' cognitive and behavioral self-regulation was higher thanthat of boys'. Fourthly in terms of emotional and social playfulness, self-regulation positively and alsoinfluenced self-regulation positively in both boys' and girls. In contrast, in the case of boy emotionalplayfulness didn't influence cognitive self-regulation. Hoever in the case of girls' emotional playfulness wasan important factor.
