The relationship between happiness levels of middle-aged male workers with family relationships, non-family relationships and job satisfaction

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between middle-aged male workers\' family relationships(the child,spouse and parental relationships), non-family relationships(relationships with friends and coworkers) and jobsatisfaction with happiness. The participants were 618 married middle age men, aged between 40 and 59,and who held jobs in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province. The data thus collected were analyzed by means pfMANOVA, Pearson\'s correlation, hierarchical and step multiple regressions, using SPSS 17.0. The resultsare as follows. (1) There was no significant difference in family relationships(the child, spouse and parentalrelationships), non-family relation(friend relationship, coworker relationship), job satisfaction and happiness byage. (2) There was a significant relationship between relationships(the child, spouse and parentalrelationships), non-family relationships(relationships with friends and coworkers) and job satisfaction withhappiness for those aged their 40s and 50s. There was also a difference in the strongest predictor variableof men in their 40s men and in their 50s in terms of happiness. In the case of men in their 40s, jobsatisfaction was the strongest predictor of happiness among all variables. However. in the case of men intheir 50s, positive spousal relationships was the strongest predictor of happiness among all variables.
