The Influence of Peer Relationships on Children\'s Peer Victimization

Abstract

The influence of peer relationships on children\'s peer victimization was investigated with the Network of Relationships Inventory modified by Han(1996) and the Social Experience Questionnaire modified by Lim(1998). The subjects were 357 children of the fourth and sixth grades in four elementary schools located in Seoul. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations, Cronbach\'s α, two-way ANOVAs, Pearson\'s correlations, and a multiple regression analysis. The results of this study indicated significant differences in the level of children\'s peer victimization as a function of gender and age. There were also signigicant correlations between children\'s peer relationships and peer victimization. And children\'s age and children\'s peer relationships(social support, punishment/ leadership) explained 49.2% of children\'s peer victimization.
