A Preliminary Study on Mothers' Attitudes on an Emotional Acceptance Scale as Perceived by Adolescents

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop an emotional acceptance scale for mothers' attitudes as thoseattitudes are perceived adolescents. This was done in order to construct a mothers' attitude on emotionalacceptance scale, and to verify the suitability of questionnaires, their validity, and credibility according tothe scale thus developed. The subjects of this study consisted of 352 adolescents. Data were analyzed bymeans of exploratory factor analysis, Chi-Square test and reliability analysis. The results from the factoranalysis revealed three principal factors(problem-solving supportive reaction, punctive neglect reaction,over-acceptance reaction). In terms of statistical results, the item discriminant coefficients, Cramer's Vranged from .35 to .67, and in terms of the reliability result, Cronbach's α ranged from .85 to .93.Therefore, this study can be said to be meaningful in terms of the preliminary aim; that is acting as apreliminary research exercise for developing an emotional acceptance scale of mothers' attitudes.
