The Development of Close Social Relationships in Adolescence

Abstract

To study the characteristics of close social relationships, the question as to whether there are differencesaccording to gender, age, in the areas of psychological functions with middle/high/college students(n=211)was examined. These close social relationships were evaluated through The Picture Affective RelationshipTest(PART). The results indicated that, there were differences in the types of close social relationships inaccordance with gender and age in the area of nurturing. Specifically, the percentages of friends werehighest in the male group and mothers were followed by the percentages of friends. At the same time,the percentages of mothers were highest in the female group and friends, and were followed by thepercentages of mothers. Next, the percentages of friends were highest amongst the middle/high schoolstudents and mothers were followed by the percentages of friends. Again, at the same time, thepercentages of mothers were highest in the college students and fathers were followed by the percentagesof mothers.
