The Effects of Mother's Separation Anxiety and Parenting Guilt Feelings on Parenting Behavior among Working and Nonworking Mothers

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mother's separation anxiety and parenting guiltfeelings upon parenting behaviors among working and non-working mothers. The subjects of this studycomprised 209 mothers of 12 to 48 month old children who were attending kindergartens located inChungbuk. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of frequency, percentage, mean, standarddeviation, Cronbach's α, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS12.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: First, it was found that separation anxiety andparenting guilt feelings had significant effects on their parenting behavior among both nonworking andworking mothers. Second, the interaction effects of separation anxiety and parenting guilt feelings weresignificant on working mothers' over-protective parenting behavior. It is noteworthy that the effects ofmother's parenting guilt feelings on negative parenting behaviors was stronger among nonworkingmothers than working mothers, which implies that the effect of mother's psychological factors on theirparenting behavior may be different according to their employment status.
