A Review of Literature on Parenting Stress of Mothers with Handicapped Children: An Ecological Approach

Abstract

The purposes of this paper were to describe the recent research findings documenting the parenting stress of mothers who had handicapped children, and to integrate these predictors with Bronfenbrenner\'s theory of \'Ecology of Human Development.\' In the process of reviewing the literature, the variables were classified into four system variables such as micro-, meso-, exo-, and macro-systems following Bronfenbrenner\'s model and examined accordingly. In addition, based on the literature review and the proposed research model, a few testable research ideas were suggested.
