Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the meaning of marriage as perceived by remarried Koreanhusbands in multicultural families. For the purpose of this study, 6 Korean men who remarried immigrantwomen from foreign countries (China, The Philippines, Vietnam and Uzbekistan) were interviewed and thedata thus collected were analyzed by means of qualitative method including open coding and Giorgi'sphenomenological method. The results indicated that the meaning of multicultural marriage as perceived byremarried Korean husbands in multicultural families could be categorized as follows: ‘the meaning andvitality of life and restarting family life in midlife’, ‘relationship gaining benefit just existing only as apartner without trust and communication’. These positive meanings of marriage could be importantmotivations to maintain stable and satisfactory multicultural families from the position of remarried Koreanhusbands.
