A Study on the Imaginary Meanings of Family Terms of Designation by Semantic Differential Technique

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the imaginary meanings of family terms of designation by semantic differential technique. 597 selected students from middle schools and high schools in Seoul and Kyonggi Do participated in this survey. The information was analysed by frequencies, percentiles and t-test. The results show that female students understood more about terms such as \'mother\', \'older brother\' \'older sister\', \'elder brother\' \'elder sister\' than male students. The students in Seoul thought about family terms of designation as more positive and intimate than the students in Kyonggi Do. Also the results show grade differences in students\' imaginary meanings of family terms of designation.
